My Story
Five days ago I went to the doctor for abdomenal discomfort. She ordered blood work and a CT scan. My preliminary diagnosis is ovarian cancer.....I have a very large tumor on my ovary and it seems that my lypmh nodes are affected. I am concerned about the waiting time.....I have an appointment with an oncologist in eight daysfrom today, but the surgery will be another ten days out. I am currently taking Darvocet for the discomfort and pain. I am scared and feel totally at a loss here. I need to talk...

  • My Progress

I had a radical hysteorectomy on Dec. 4th.  I was staged at 3C ovarian/fallopian cancer ( 7cm growth on ovary, enlarged fallopian tube, 2 lymph nodes and some abdominal tissue were all positive).  Started chemo in clinical trial, GOG-218, at Yale New Haven Hospital (CT.) on Dec. 30th. I went back to work fulltime as of Feb. 2nd.  I just completed my 6th (final) treatment( was every 21 days), but will continue to be monitored under the trial.  I have extremme faith in  Dr. Rutherford and his gyn/onco. team at Yale.  I have been very fortunate that the side effects have not been tramatic for me...fatigue, aches, shortness of breath, itchy skin and some blurred vision.  My attitude changed the first day of treatment from being scared and anxious to being positive and a fighter.  I had my hair buzzed off before it was taken from me, got a great wig and cute head scarves, and went back to the gym to stay strong.  I realize that I am not out of the woods, but I am determined to live my life with the new vision that I have.
