Is it possible to prevent side effects?
Q: Is it possible to prevent side effects?
A: Some side effects may be prevented, or minimized, by using treatments or delivery systems that have reduced risks. There are also medications to curb problems. Nutrition changes help avoid or lessen nausea and vomiting, weight loss, constipation, diarrhea, anemia, and more. Physical activity helps you cope with stress, anxiety, fatigue, and depression. Complementary techniques, such as acupuncture and massage, may help control pain.
Side effects are not an inevitable part of cancer treatment. Your health care team will work diligently with you to prevent or reduce discomforts. Remember, YOU are the expert on YOU. Your health care team needs to hear from you about your experiences. Be sure to tell your team about any problems you may be experiencing so quick action can be taken.
