Can I prevent vaginal yeast infections while receiving chemotherapy and radiation?

Ask a Question

Q: I always seem to have a vaginal yeast infection. Is there anything I can do to quit getting them or will I have to wait until I’m done with my chemo and radiation?

A: During chemotherapy treatment, the mucous membranes that line your vagina  may become irritated and dry. This can lead to uncomfortable yeast infections, often marked by a white discharge, itching, and burning. Vaginal herpes or warts may also recur if you’ve had them before. Since your immune system is weaker during treatment, it’s important to talk with your health care team as soon as you notice any symptoms of possible infection.
