    Just Wondering

Hello I am a 38 year female that found out in march that I have Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma, I have had surgery to remove it and have gone for other test to see if it has spread, I am waiting for treatment and meet with the Doctors on April 30 to discuss treatment, just wondering if anyone else has gone through this...and what kind of treatment that they received

    Thanks Inglis

I'm 61 and in treatment for Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.  I was told operating was not an option unless I wanted a colostomy, so I am undergoing 6 weeks of radiation (5 days a week) and chemotherapy (mitomycin C and 5FU) continuous infusion via a pump during week 1 and week 4.  Just completed week 1 and I made it through.

I'm surprised that you had surgery right away.  Could be your tumor was smaller than mine (3cm).  I hope you're doing well and that your tests show no further signs of the cancer.

    Good luck

    C

    Hi,

I am almost 2 years out of treatment. Please read the article found here:  http://demo.cancerconsultants.com/Content.aspx?Section=cancernews&DocumentID=37698

According to results recently reported at the 2006 semi-annual meeting of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), treatment including the chemotherapy agents 5-fluorouracil and mitomycin-C (Mutomycin®) plus radiation therapy remains the standard of care for patients with anal cancer.

Talk to your doctor about this if you are not receiving this treatment.  Research on the web.

Also there is a great group on Yahoo of people that have been where you are now.

    Best wishes,

    Pedgie
