Recurrence worries

I am almost finished with chemo, 4 more treatments to go and had a double masectomy when diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer.  My mind now leading to worries of since I have no breasts how will I know if it comes back?  What will I feel like or what symptoms do I need to be on the look out for?

Re: Recurrence worries

When you finish with your treatments your doctor should set you up with regular follow-ups monitoring your cancer with blood tests and possibly scans based on the intitial work-up.  It is important to still doing regular health check-ups with all your doctors especially your gynocologist.   You should still  be doing self breast exam , meaning becoming familiar with the remaining tissues in the breast area and under your arms to monitor for any skin changes or lumps which should be reported to your doctor immediately.  Check out the Caring4Cancer website for additonal resources on Breast Cancer may also give you additional guidelines in monitoring your care.  Bernie RN
