And so it begins

Hi everyone.  My name is Betsie and I've just been diagnosed with lung cancer with a spread to a lymph node.  My biaposy isn't back yet but that as they tell me will just tell me what kind and stage I'm in. They want me to have a lobeectomey (?) and then have a cardiac surgeon take out the node.  Anyone know why insurance companies don't pay for cancer treatment centers?  WHat is wrong here?

Re: And so it begins

Hi Betsie,  My name is brenda and I was diagnosed Dec 17 with Thyroid cancer. Dec 26 I had a total thyroidectimy.  My husband picked up my pathologist report yesterday and one tumor was classified as a T4a which falls in the stage 4. I have not had a scan yet so I don't know if it has spread to the bone or else where.  The prognosis for stage 4 is alarming, but I am determined to beat this thing.  I feel myself trying to fight back tears everytime I have a quiet moment, but I have two babies under the age of one, so I am trying to keep busy. I am afraid that when I have to have I-131 (raidoactive iodine) I will not be able to be around the babies.  Since they are foster children, I feared they would move them, and now I think perhaps it will be best. Are you going to a cancer center?  Since I have thyroid cancer I am seeing and endocrinolgist.  I was wondering if an oncologist would be better. My doctor seems on top of things but my husband doesn't want to wait two more weeks for and appt.  We live in a small town in so Georgia.

Re: And so it begins

Hi Betsy,  I do undersyand what you mean about these insurance companies not wanting to pay bills. this is outrages I had to get on medicaid when i first got sick then the second time i was hospitalized i was cut off medicaid while i was in the hospital so from my sick bed iI had to call medicaid to find ot why I was cut off.....lol and they told me the reason is that since I am on SSD I make to much money. there reasoning is since i bring home more than $750.00 a month i dont qualify for medicad. so then i was left with a bill for over $16000.00 plus other expenses as well i could not take my chemotherapy for over 2 months hows that for caing about people and there health.

finally i went down to medicaid to argue and fight with them just for them to tell me that they would place me on a spend down $330.00 which means that if my medical bills are under the $330.00 limit then i have to pay the $330.00 other than that I have to bring my dr bills to them every month so that i can continue to recieve medicaid.  Now I know that you are probably reading this blog and saying WHAT!!!!!!!! guess waht so am I I dont get it they explaind it to me and I still dont get it  but hey I took them my bills from the hospital and ambulance and now my medicaid is free for the next 6 months then the process starts again go figure.

So I guess what im trying to say is you have o keep fighting for your rights as if were not tired already but you have to fight we need to write to our congress and change these ridiculous laws its like they dont care and they dont.

Until next time feel better and pray on it GOD will work things out

you are in my prayers........Anthony

Upon reading your message I immediately said a prayer for you.  Do reserach on the internet and get up to date info on your type of cancer.  Call your local American Cancer Society and ask about support groups in your area.  Also make an appointment to talk with a counselor regarding your financial, physical and emotional well-being.  I am a breast cancer survivor and my husband of 45 years was just recently diagnosed with brain cancer.  We find our support in God as we know that He is in complete contro of our lives.  Keep up the fight and  God Bless.  Psalm42
