Talk her down

Hello, Im Amanda and Im fifty-three. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer several weeks ago and my family is taking it hard, especially my daughter, shes worried shell catch it now and is considering having her ovaries removed. Should she do this? I want more than one grandchild and am trying to talk her out of it.

Re: Talk her down

Hi Amanda.  I'm Carroll, I'm 54 and I was diagnosed w/ Stage IV ovarian cancer in October.  My daughters, especially my oldest who is 23, are also worried about their chances of getting ovarian cancer.  I'm sure that both your oncologist and your daughter's gynecologist can help your daughter better understand what her risks and options are, both of which are related to the type of ovarian cancer you have. My daughters' gynocologist is monitoring my daughters through an annual CA125 test.  I don't know if that is appropriate in your daughter's case.

I wish you the best of luck in your journey and will put you on my prayer list.  Here's hoping you get those grandchildren you want!  I know my two grandsons are a delight.

RE: How are you doing?

Hi Amanda:

Saw your message on Caring4Cancer site and see that you were diagnosed a while back.  I was diagnosed in August 2007.  I just wondered how things are going for you?

You may email me direct if you wish at sharken@charter.net.
