my name is Paula and i'm angry about my recent diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer. its just not fair, and it's made worse because I know it's my fault. i never smoked in high school, but i hung out with my friends who did, almost all my boyfriends smoked, etc. its completely my fault for hanging around secondhand smoke, and now i could die because of it.

Paula, yes, it isn't fair to have lung cancer.  It is also not fair to you to blame yourself for it.  Sometimes there are alot of factors that can determine the cause, and although I haven't seen any scientific evidence that secondhand smoke causes cancer, I can't say that being around people that are smoking isn't the culprit, I'm just saying that you shouldn't blame yourself, because there could be other contributing factors. Things are tough enough, you know?  Channel that energy for the fight to win the battle :)
