what to do???

my name is William. im 54. i was diagnosed with multiple myeloma several weeks ago and the prognosis is not good. they caught it late, so i may not survive long. the doctors say my options are standard chemotherapy which would contain it and keep me alive longer or a bone marrow transplant its still experimental and is dangerous, but it could give me much more time if it suceeded. what should I do??

Re: what to do???

My uncle is 55 and also has multible myeloma. He just had a stem cell transplant at Sloan Kettering in NYC 2 weeks ago, after 6 months of chemo treatments. He is now cancer free. Try and get yourself to that hospital if your'e not already. They are the best. Keep fighting and don't ever give up!

Good luck and I will say a prayer for you tonight.

Re: what to do???

I am a surviving Multiple Myeloma patient. My doctors tell me that the research on Multiple Myeloma is showing great progress.  I don't know specifics about your case but it is always a good idea to find a second opinion, I did.  Never give up...no matter how difficult things may seem to be.  If you practice religion then follow your heart in that direction too.  Find your local American Cancer Society and get involved in a support group if that fits your personality.  Again, NEVER GIVE UP and get a second opinion!!  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
