Re: Renal Cell Cancer

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 renal cell cancer in Dec. 2006.  They told me to get my "affairs in order".  In January I began a 3-week radiation treatment for a tumor on my spine and after that my chemo treatment with Carboplatin and Gemzar for the actual kidney cancer.  I'm still on the chemo and the tumor on the lining of my kidney is shrinking.  It had spread to the lymph nodes outside the kidney and is gone now.  I have a small spot on one of lungs that has also shrunk.

I would tell your sister to find a good oncologist and NOT give up!  I thought I had "months" to live but the chemo is working for me.  My oncologist will not give me a life expectancy but thinks we headed the right direction with the treatment because it is WORKING.

My prayers are with you and your sister!

Kitty

Re: Renal Cell Cancer

Hello, I got on this site with hopes of talking to someone who has some experience with kidney cancer. My father has a possible diagnosis. He has prostate cancer and during the course of diagnosing that they found 2 lesions on his left kidney. The doctors are saying there is no way to know for sure if the lesions are cancer or not. They say they have to take it out. I have so many questions. I cannot find a way to talk to you guys in a more private way. I sent out a friendship invitation to one lady hoping that she will contact me. Please, if you get a free moment email me at either just2much4me@yahoo.com or at 4muskateers@frontiernet.net  I would appreciate anyone that can help me with info. emailing me so I can ask some questions and get a better understanding -also I'll let you know more about his situation. I lost my Mom 10 months ago and I cannot bear the thougt of losing my daddy. I am almost 31 but I am not raedy to let him go. Please help.

Re: Renal Cell Cancer

Dee, sorry you feel helpless but it is a very comon feeling when you hear the word cancer.....but no matter what you have to have faith......your dad's attitude and will to live has to be strong and you as a caregiver , well you gotta be his rock......my husband was my rock before he got this and now its my turn to be his........there is a web site called Kidney cancer.com it has alot of info and very helpfull...they told me that my husband has had this kidney cancer for a couple of years but my husband NEVER showed any signs of it.......not your tipical blood in the urine or backaches or anything!! but by the time we discovered it it had spread to his brain and THEN there were signs........by that time it was stage four....not a good stage to be in.......but GOD willing we are warriors and will fight this with our head held high.......yes......there are times when i am alone that I just bawl and bawl.......but then i take a deep breath and move on.........look on the good side......maybe they caught it in the early stage and can contain it so it doesn't spread.......my thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad......god bless.kj
