Im som ewhat embearassed at this, so Im using John instead of my real name. I was reecintly diagnosed with blader cancer. Ive been a smoker for years and the doctors say that could have caused it. can they treet it and was smoking really the only cause? could I have gotten this thru my genes, or is it all my fault?

Re: why?

HEY There! I am fairly new to this sight and this is the first time I saw your post.

I too have suffered with bladder cancer, but when they found it in '03 it had traveled up into my left kidney. There for I had major surgery to remove my kidney, tube and part of the bladder. I, too had smoked some over the years, but had had chemo 20 years before for another cancer. My Dr. thinks the combination of smoking and the former chemo.  I had never heard that smoking caused bladder cancer until I was diagnosed. I am sorry, but there are many good treatments available expecially if contained in the bladder. I wish you the best possible outcome, and don't waste any of your life with guilt over something in the past. Just quit smoking now if you have not! It is not easy but worth it...

Re: why?

hi, i'm michael ( yes that's my real name -lol ) i got my first taste of trouble just yesterday.

the first thing my dr told my wife is that i must stop smoking ( NOW ), it seems that smoking is the prime cause of this type of cancer. so, now it's day two - had tumors in bladder burned yesterday, day two much more painful than day one, even hurts to cough, but i'm assuming that will pass. my dr told my wife that this is treatable as long as cancer is not in muscle tissue. if it is, then my bladder needs to go. not a pleasant option, but an option just the same i guess. good luck with yours too

Re: why?

I got an oral cancer in 2004, and among other things, I eventually had to seek mental health help. I landed on a psychologist who was just recently dealing with treatment for bladder cancer. He told me it was directly smoking related. He is doing well, though. But just so you know, this is no  trip to the circus. As for the why me feeling, my shrink keeps reminding me, why not me? So the cold truth is that cancer just goes to some, and not others. I quit wasting my energy on the why part, except that I won't touch a cigarette again, or bourbon. Brown liquor is very bad for the throat, and smoking doesnt help.
