    cancer is back

After going through the removal of one & a half kidneys due to cancer 5 years ago My husband was just diagnosed with stage IV small cell lung cancer. We are devistated! He has had his regular testing through the years with no signs, until now. They say he has 6 monts to a year to live. He begins chemo next week. What I need to know is what are we to expect? Will he be in a lot of pain?  Someone please Help us to understand & cope with this.

     Hey,

I am so sorry to hear about what you're having to go through with your cancer. Now, your husband has sclc. Talk about a double wammy for ya'all. Listen up, though. Don't ya'all dare listen to a Dr. that tells you your hubby has 'only' 6 months to live, dear. How could he possibly know that? He can't. Only God knows when we'll be leaving here.

If, I were ya'all, I'd get a second opinion with your hubby's DX. And, for yours as well, if this same Dr. DX your cancer. You want a Dr. that will fight aggressively for you, against this cancer ya'all have. Please, go see a Dr. that is not a friend of your current Dr., ASAP.

I was DX with extensive small cell lung cancer, in Dec. of, 07. It had mest to my liver and bones as well. I have had 6 chemo treatments, and my last CT/PET scan shows a huge reduction in my lower right lung mass of cancer.  There is no evidence of cancer in my liver and bones, now. So, see there. Have faith and hope...with a caring new Dr.

Good luck to both of ya'all. Hugs.

    Nancy,

I am so sorry to hear about your husbands cancer coming back.  He and you both have been through so much together, that you wonder how much more of this can ya'all take. Correct? Before this happen to ya'all, I bet you thought just that. Especially now, with being hit with this new whammy that has hit ya'all.

I don't think I can help you with knowledge of what ya'all can expect to happen, dear. Who knows the answer to this? Everyone is so different.  From the way they respond to treatment, to how well they do with other aspects of this horrid disease. This is where taking one day at a time comes in.  We just have to treasure each and every day that we wake up.

I was told this week, since I finished all my chemo therapies. (6 total) That I am to be put on a chemo pill. Then, I was told by this same doctor of mine, "If, your cancer comes back as active again, you'll have to take chemo treatment again."  See, friend?  That is the same with all of us it seems. If, we are (our bodies that is)  well and strong enough to go another round with chemo, we have to do it. This is the only option we have of pro-longing our lives. It gives us more time. That and having  'hope' that  our cancer will go into remission again, is all we have to hang on to.  That's how I look at it.

I for one, intend to do whatever I can, to pro-long my life. As long as my quality of life is good, I shall do more chemo if needed, if need be.

I pray and wish only good things for your husband and yourself, Nancy. Please, remember to take care of yourself as well. Ya'all hang in there. Never lose hope. God Bless Ya'all. Hugs.

    My Very Best to Ya'all,
