Good question!  One of the first things that people ask themselves after they are given information about their cancer and treatment plan is "How do I take care of myself?"  Sleep is important to your overall health and feeling well. Maintain your normal requirements.  If you normally sleep 6 hrs a night and are very rested, this is fine.  If you are someone who requires a good 10 hours sleep then maintain this schedule.   Most people however, require 6-8 hours of sleep to feel well rested. Remember to live your life as normally as possible.  Studies have been done to show that people who sleep too much actually feel more fatigue and can even feel depressed.

So stay active, exercise.  Your body needs to expend energy to rest well at night.  When you go to bed at night practice relaxation techniques such as guided imagry or meditation, read, listen to music, or watch a little TV.

Visit Dr Geffen's 7 levels of Healing on the C4C website and look under the 3rd level  The Body as a Garden for other suggestions in actively taking care of your body.
