My wife was just diagnosed with cervical cancer and has to talk to the oncologist today.  Is it appropriate to ask what her odds are of beating the desease and the approx. time she will have to take chemo. and radiation theropy.

I would say yes...

As difficult as it may seem to hear the news, or any cancer related news - knowledge is power!  You really need to know what your up against - but at the same time, I would allow the doctor to set the tone and proceed from there.
