    Lymphedema

I had a mastectomy last November and so far do not have lymphedema.   There is a new study showing that weight lifting helps those who do have it.  I am wondering if it might also help prevent it.    I was told that I should wear my compression sleeve whenever I use my arm a lot such as for skiing or playing golf.   But when I wear it for more than a few hours it seems to cause my hand to swell up a bit,  perhaps from the restriction.   Does anyone know if wearing the sleeve also helps to prevent lymphedema?

    Re: Lymphedema

I can only tell you my experience. When I had my first breast cancer in 1992 I had been lifting weights (fairly heavy) for a year. I had 15 nodes removed and as soon aas I could I got back in the gym and started working out and hanging from equipment to stretch my arm. I developed lymphodyma and had a sleeve made and was told to wear it when I lifted weights. It was hot and hard to keep clean as I worked out every day. I put the sleeve in a drawer and never put it on again. The swelling went away and I have never had a problem with it since. First and foremost I give God the glory and I know that lifting weights and doing cardio has helped me get through the 3 times that I have had breast cancer. I am currently undergoing my 3rd time with it. Good luck and may God bless.
