    Coping with Cancer AND Diabetes

I am a Type 2 diabetic who's about to start treatment for solitary plasmacytoma..

I would like to hear from any other diabetics who are undergoing radiation or chemo treatments for either multiple myeloma or plasmacytoma.

I want to reply to you ,you are the only one I may be able to identify with.Kind of..My daughter has Diabetes Insipidus. It is neither one or two kind.It was actually found before the Tumor. That is how the Tumor was found.Thank God for that.It is also known as the water Diabetes, not commonly known.I was told my daughters Padiatrician for 7 years would have probably never have found it.So my 7 year old daughter is being treated for brain tumor, and Diabetes Insipidus. She is always thirsty even at nightime, she cannot retain her fluid, and has to urinate all the time.It has been only two months,it is not completly in control.I have to monitor her urine at home ,and give her a pill known as DDAVP 3 times a day.She is being treated for 2 things like you. What kind of Cancer do have may I ask??Please reply..Paula,caregiver

Re: Coping with Cancer AND Diabetes

Your daughter's form of diabetes is not one I'd heard of before.  For a child to be going through both diabetes AND cancer treatment must be very difficult -- not just for her but for you as well.

The cancer I have is "plasmacytoma", which is usually found under "multiple myeloma".  So far they found it is confined to one area of my spine.

Very little of what I've found on-line relates to treating both diabetes AND cancer.  I know that there will surely be closer monitoring of my blood glucose levels because of the diabetes -- and probably more dietary changes.

Is your daughter able to eat or does she have feeding via IV or some other means?
