The Seven Levels of Healing program helps patients and family members navigate effectively on their journey through cancer, regardless of their particular diagnosis, stage of disease, or treatment plan. It addresses every aspect of the healing journey and provides guidance, wisdom, and clear directions for finding meaning, hope, and practical solutions at every step along the way.

Level 1: Education and Information

Level 1 provides information about the diagnosis and treatment of your specific cancer. It answers questions such as: "What are the best treatments available for me? What other options do I have? What side effects might I experience, and how can I minimize them?"

Level 2: Connection with Others

Level 2 focuses on the need for and the benefits of a strong support network. Connection with others lies at the heart of healing.

Level 3: The Body as Garden

Level 3 explores the vast array of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies, such as diet, nutrition, exercise, massage, yoga, acupuncture, visualization, and many more.

Level 4: Emotional Healing

Level 4 helps patients and families deal effectively with the feelings and emotional challenges often encountered in dealing with cancer.

Level 5: The Nature of Mind

Level 5 explores how our thoughts and beliefs—the meanings we give to events—influence every aspect of our experience on The Journey Through Cancer.

Level 6: Life Assessment

Level 6 helps patients and family members discover the deepest meaning and purpose of their lives and their most important goals.

Level 7: Nature of Spirit

Level 7 connects patients and loved ones to the fundamental and profoundly healing spiritual dimension of life.

ACOG Updates Cervical Cancer Screening Guidelines

November 20, 2009 — The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has revised its cervical cancer screening recommendations: the organization now recommends that women begin screening at the age of 21 and receive screening at less frequent intervals. These recommendations will be published in the December 2009 issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

New Velcade®-melphalan Transplant Regimen for Multiple Myeloma

November 20, 2009 — Researchers from France have reported encouraging results with adding Velcade® (bortezomib) to high-dose melphalan followed by autologus stem cell infusion for initial treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. The details of this Phase II study appeared in an early online publication in Blood on November 2, 2009.

Folic Acid May Be Beneficial in Patients with Recurrent Colorectal Adenoma Who Are Folate Deficient

November 20, 2009 — Researchers affiliated with the Health Professional Follow-Up Study and the Nurses’ Health Study have reported that folic acid supplementation in patients with recurrent colorectal adenoma was not protective or harmful in most patients. However, patients who were folate deficient had a significant 39% decrease in adenoma recurrence. The details of this study appeared in an early online publication on October 28, 2009 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
