About Dr. Jeremy R. Geffen 

 

Jeremy R. Geffen, MD, FACP, is a board-certified medical oncologist, a leading expert in integrative medicine and oncology, and the founder of Geffen Visions International (GVI). A gifted and inspiring physician, author, speaker, and seminar leader, he is the author of the highly-acclaimed book The Journey Through Cancer  and audio program The Seven Levels of Healing.

Dr. Geffen graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University and received his MD degree with honors from New York University School of Medicine. He completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center. In 1995, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

In addition to his academic medical education and training, Dr. Geffen has traveled extensively and has more than 30 years of experience exploring the great spiritual and healing traditions of the world, including Ayurveda, Tibetan medicine, yoga, meditation, and other approaches to health and self-awareness.

Described as an "oncologist of the future," Dr. Geffen founded the Geffen Cancer Center and Research Institute in Vero Beach, Fla., in 1994, which he directed until 2003. It was one of the first cancer centers in the United States explicitly designed to provide a working model of truly holistic, comprehensive cancer care for the twenty-first century. The center was renowned for its groundbreaking Seven Levels of Healing program, which integrates state-of-the-art conventional cancer treatments with a wide array of complementary therapies designed to promote healing and transformation at the deepest levels of the body, mind, heart, and spirit. Dr. Geffen practiced medical oncology and hematology for 11 years before closing the center and leaving clinical practice in 2003 to work full time with GVI. During his career as a practicing physician, he provided guidance and care to thousands of patients and their loved ones.

Dr. Geffen's work is now focused on writing, speaking, and consulting with hospitals, medical centers, and professional organizations in developing leading-edge integrative programs for medicine and life. He also leads workshops and seminars throughout the United States and abroad, and offers personal consulting services for individuals and their families.

ACOG Updates Cervical Cancer Screening Guidelines

November 20, 2009 — The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has revised its cervical cancer screening recommendations: the organization now recommends that women begin screening at the age of 21 and receive screening at less frequent intervals. These recommendations will be published in the December 2009 issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

New Velcade®-melphalan Transplant Regimen for Multiple Myeloma

November 20, 2009 — Researchers from France have reported encouraging results with adding Velcade® (bortezomib) to high-dose melphalan followed by autologus stem cell infusion for initial treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. The details of this Phase II study appeared in an early online publication in Blood on November 2, 2009.

Folic Acid May Be Beneficial in Patients with Recurrent Colorectal Adenoma Who Are Folate Deficient

November 20, 2009 — Researchers affiliated with the Health Professional Follow-Up Study and the Nurses’ Health Study have reported that folic acid supplementation in patients with recurrent colorectal adenoma was not protective or harmful in most patients. However, patients who were folate deficient had a significant 39% decrease in adenoma recurrence. The details of this study appeared in an early online publication on October 28, 2009 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
