Q: I am angry that I have cancer, and my anger is affecting my life and relationships. Can you help?

Yes. Level 4 is all about Emotional Healing. This is a very important part of getting well. Unfortunately, though, it is often overlooked in dealing with cancer. Anger—many other emotions—commonly experienced by almost everyone at some time or another on their cancer journey. It is OK to be angry, frustrated, or depressed about what you are going through.

Trust that these emotions can and will change. Explore them in a safe and respectful environment. It is important to honor your feelings, whatever they may be, and not to judge or deny them. Talking with a counselor, clergy person, or trusted friend can shed light on any upsetting emotions you are experiencing and help you release them. This, in turn, can help you heal, and help you find more love, support, and joy in your relationships.

November 20, 2009 — Researchers affiliated with the Health Professional Follow-Up Study and the Nurses’ Health Study have reported that folic acid supplementation in patients with recurrent colorectal adenoma was not protective or harmful in most patients. However, patients who were folate deficient had a significant 39% decrease in adenoma recurrence. The details of this study appeared in an early online publication on October 28, 2009 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
